How can a doctor diagnose alzheimer's when a person has had the same memory problems before???

My grandmother was diagnosed with mild schizophrenia a LONG time ago, but now they’re saying she’s showing early signs of alzheimer’s even though she had the same memory problems when they diagnosed her as schizophrenic! (which she shows NO sign of….just an extreme mental disorder from a mental breakdown which happened because of family issues. How can the doctors be sure this is alzheimers?? I’m worried….

How to deal with a controlling Mom?

I’m 24, and have been an adult for awhile, but certain circumstances won’t allow me to fully develop into who I want to become.

I still live at home with my mom, who needs constant caregiving, has depression, and guilts me for her loneliness. I can’t really leave, because I love her and I would feel bad if anything were to happen to her. I have no other family members to help me care for her, and I am an only child. I have to be with her all the time to take her to doctors appointments, run her errands, make sure she doesn’t fall asleep in the sink with the water running/fall down the stairs, ect. and give her constant companionship.

I have great relationships in my life, take care of my own bills/laundry/household duties, and have a career that is finally starting to take off, but she has this thing with wanting to hold me back. When I want to sleep over at friends’ houses for a few nights to get away, she throws a fit, and guilts me into staying with her because she doesn’t want to be by herself. I can’t even go over to my boyfriend’s house to spend the night without her threatening to disown me, or starting up some rabid argument. On many occasions I have been invited on road trips, traveling, or events, but I can never go because she guilts me into not going, or makes me think that something bad is going to happen to her when I’m not there, so I am afraid she will be alone, and lonely and some tragic thing will happen. In my career, when I talk about going to business meetings/trips and such, she expects to go with me, or follow me, though it is inappropriate.

She is retired, doesn’t really have any hobbies, has friends but doesn’t really like to go out often, refuses to date, and her main interest is just everything involving me and everything I do. No doubt I love her, and the closeness we share, but this is grating on my nerves and I feel constant depression and anxiety from her doing this CONSTANTLY. There is so much I want to do in my life and accomplish, but she has this thing where she wants to follow me everywhere and watch everything I do and hold me back from being anywhere at a distance.

HELP ME. I feel like i’m suffocating and there is nothing I can do to improve my life with this situation going on. I don’t want to leave her cause she does need my help, and we do have a pretty great relationship, but her constant strain on me is limiting me from everyday adult privileges and indepedance. When talking to her about this, she cries, and goes on a screaming rampage and cusses up a storm, and gets angry at the very thought of me leaving her alone for even just one night…

I just want to be an adult so badly.

Is there someone that can help me with these illnesses?

Can you tell me what type of diseases that can be spread by mosquitos, tics, or other insects? I am looking for something that I heard about that is rare and many doctors misdiagnose it as dimensia or Alzheimers. Please give me a list. Anything that you know would be very helpful?

Can people with Alzheimer's be held responsible for their violent behavior?

My mom has Alzheimer’s. She has become very aggressive and belligerent. She can become very violent, she has tried to kill me six times. She refuses to get help and her doctors have told me that in our state a person can not be forced to get medical help against their will. What happens if she tries to harm someone outside the family(we kids can’t bring ourselves to file charges against our own mother)? Can she go to jail? I was told this state(Virginia) does not incarcerate people over 70 because the state can not afford their medical expenses. Can she be sued? Her medical expenses are tremendous and none of us kids can afford to cover them. She will probably die without her savings.
I know of cases where people much younger than 70 were released from jail/prison because the state did not want to pay their medical expenses.
