How do you break down the wall around your heart?

After several failed, messy relationships: parental, husband, boy friend of 6.5 years, betrayal by stepfather, dad walks away from kids and grand kids, bestfriend and mother dies young, care for her mother who dies 4 years later of Alzheimers. Having to be the one to reinforce the DNR orders on both of them, lost my other grandmother and feel like a 35 year old orphan. I don’t trust men because of so much betrayal and abandonment. I want to be open for love, but have a steel reinforced band around my heart that leaves me numb. Any advice would be very appreciated!

Art & Alzheimer’s with Angel Duncan

Memories in the Making (MIM) is a fine arts program designed for people with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia. Angel Duncan directs MIM through the Alzheimer’s Association. No art background is necessary; it’s about the creative process. Through painting, memories are reconnected and communication is bridged between loved ones. Art becomes the universal language when words fade. Those suffering from Alzheimer’s or other dementias can use art to tell their stories and share an essence of themselves thought to be lost forever.

Did they not put Pansy Parkinson in the Harry Potter movies?

Ive only read half of the first book (still in the process of reading it) and i havent come across pansy yet, but on fanfictions and other HP websites people are talking about some pansy girl that is supposedly in love with Malfoy. I’ve never come across her in the movies or maybe i just wasnt paying attention?

Inspired by a poem my sister wrote regarding our mom who has Alzheimer’s disease. ©2005 Words and music written & performed by Carol Sue Kirkpatrick. Co-write words by Jo Ann Divine. All rights reserved. Dedicated to our mother with love. ~LYRICS~ “Thief Inside Us” Oh, the memories, oh… She walks alone in her house holding a picture frame as she wonders from room to room Hoping to regain her memory of where the picture hangs She knows the picture is dear to her but she can’t remember why Four little girls all in a row dressed in pretty Easter clothes Oh, the memories, oh the memories, where did they go (go, the memories – go, the memories)… There’s a thief inside us it can sneak in our minds and take away the one’s we love one thought at a time Whoa, our memories, memories… As she stands alone in her room holding the picture frame she puts it softly in her drawer and touches it with gentleness and then she tilts her head and smiles once more Oh, the memories, Oh the memories, where did they go (go, the memories – go, the memories) four little girls all in a row (go, the memories) dressed in pretty Easter clothes Oh, the memories, oh the memories, where did they go (go, the memories) Where did they go, (go, the memories) where did they go (go, the memories) Of four little girls all in a row Where did they go, (go, the memories) where did they go, (go, the memories) where did they go (go, the memories) where did they go (go, the memories)… ~END LYRICS~ ©2005 Words

Is an alzheimer's patient's soul already moved on to heaven while he's still alive?

I can’t understand it. When I saw my grandmother in the middle-late stages of Alzheimer’s, she appeared like a child, she could hardly remember anything, she could not remember who her husband was, who her daughter was, not even her own name. Her behavior was consistent with that of a 2 year old girl, confused about her surroundings and playing with her hands, with no idea of what’s going on around her. And she did not know who GOD was.
In the final stages of the disease, she was like a plant, just a piece of meat with no thoughts, feelings or memories, just the instinct of a shrimp.
In this stage, she was technically still ‘alive’, and her soul presumably awaiting to go to heaven.
Did her soul; meaning her thoughts, her feelings, or at the least her memories of her loved ones or the knowledge of their or her own existence; upload to heaven slowly as her mind slowly evaporated into oblivion? Cause to say that her soul was still inside her at this stage sounds silly to me.

Note: Please don’t be ignorant about Alzheimer’s; she wasn’t just "still there" but "can’t communicate with us", don’t confuse this disease with Locked-in syndrome.
                  Typical christians…
                  "God still loves her"
"Love makes the world go round(or flat)"
And no actual answer related to the question

Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk ’08: Los Angeles

Moments from the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk (October 5th, 2008). Mayor of the City of Los Angeles kicks off Opening Ceremonies, along with KTLA’s Steve Edwards, celebrities, and honorary chairs. People of all ages (and even their pets!) hit the streets of downtown LA for a 5K walk. After the walk, there was prizes, great entertainment, food, fun, and a wonderful from the heart “Finish” speech by TV host Leeza Gibbons. Together, the people in LA raised quite a bit of money (recent update 10/18/08: 0000 and counting) in this walk to go towards Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. A lot of love given to those in need from the City of Angels.
